Over the last couple of months, the Technology Helping People team has been hard at work designing and refining the hardware for the Alzheimer’s project. After working through multiple prototype iterations, we had designed a final product and sent the schematics away for circuit board creation.

The final design is powered by an ESP32 chip and a SIMCOM A7670SA LTE modem, which would be mounted to the back of the device through the connector pins. The circuit boards are also extremely small and portable, which meets our goals of the device being wearable.

Though some of our chip shipment orders were delayed, we are currently assembling the boards and adapting our software to be compatible on them. Since the components of the boards are small and hard to solder by hand, these boards first have solder paste applied to them using a stencil, and then are placed into a reflow oven to melt the solder paste and create strong solder connections.
After the final boards are produced, the next steps would be flashing the software, testing functionality and tuning the software to the real-world constraints of cell signal quality and battery life within the small package.
